My understanding on the Books of Joel through Haggai: Multiple Books

You will find my understanding on the Books of Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah & Haggai in this blog. These Kings are considered as minor prophets.

The book of Joel is expressing how God calls for his people to repent of their wrongdoings. I learned in Joel 2:13 that God is slow to anger. It takes a lot for the most high to pour out his wrath. We are created in God’s image. Therefore, we need to learn how to be slow to anger. That will slow down the the negativity to follows wrongdoing. Who will you choose, the heqd or the tail?

In the book of Amos, it discusses five visions of God’s judgement on Isreal. God give each of us visions of what is next in his creation, universe and earth. It is important for us to pay attention. The five visions were locusts, fire, a plumb line, basket of fruit, and God beside the alter. Amos is the prophet who started the phrase “Day of the Lord.” The day of the Lord is Isreal’s victory against their enemy. It is considered to be a dooms day. God was judging all nations. Those people in the nation who were taking advantage of priviledges that served only a select few.

Just like the 21st century priviledged group of people who do wrong by the majority. Priviledged Isrealites in the Bible and those in America today take selfish actions to serve them. They will lie, cheat and decieve the majority for their own pleasure. One example is how they would sell off needy people for goods. Sound just like how African Americans were sold for money and goods.

In the book of Obadiah, it discusses the fall of Edom for violent actions and sins against their own family.

In the book of Jonah, was a miraculous story. Prophet Jonah survived being swallowed by a whale for 3 days. God repented the evil from the people of Ninevah because they prayed and turned from their sinful ways. This is the first time in a while that the people changed their heart from doing evil without getting Gods wrath.

The book of Micah is the time where the people start acts of violence against people of God spreading the gospel. Prophet Micah mission was about world peace through Zion.

The book of Nahum expresses how God is slow to anger but will bring his wrath down on the guilty. God proves how the ones who trust in him will be protected.

The city of Ninevah was being judged of their witch sorcery, drunkeness, infidelity, and spiritual unfaithfulness. God just want us to follow his goodness and guidance.

The book of Habakkak is communication between the prophet and God on the subject of Faith. Habakkuk 2:4 the just shall live by his faith. God want Habakkuk to build absolute trust in him regardless of the troubles. The prophet sees people of God injustices and no action from God. He is confused amd questions Gods wisdom. This book reminds us that valley is too deep nor no place is too dark for God grace to come in to take over. God is exalted and the enemy is defeated.

The book of Zephaniah

Prophet Zephaniah is another servant of the Lord that saw corruption in Jerusalem. He warned laeders about the judgments on the nation and Jerusalem due to disorder, idol worshipping and other sins. Of course, Gods mercy and presence always ends with restoration. Gods justice and love will always be available when we repent, and become obiedient.

The book of Haggai

The prophet Haggai mission expressed extreme urgency to rebuild the Temple of Jerusalem. God give mercy once again by restoring his people. This is the time when exiles were allowed to return from Babylon. The people of Jerusalem showed a sense of apathy in the beginning.

According Haggai 1:7 God wanted them to open their eyes to realize that their lack was due to disobeidience. Yes, God will withhold our resources, blessings, & prosperity when we decide to stray away from him. Some people get comfortable with lack. In Haggai 2:5, God reassures the leaders to fear not for his spirit abides in us. The people were looking at the physical aspects of their ministry instead of the love and connection they already had with God.
